We are delighted to announce that AAT Research have been awarded the Malta Innovation Award of 2012 for Technological Innovation.

The Malta Innovation Awards are organised by the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Investment together with the Ministry for Fair Competition, Small Business and Consumers, as well as the World Intellectual Property Organization. The Awards recognize excellence in the efforts of individuals and companies to develop innovative ideas, concepts or operational processes with the  potential to be both unique and sustainable.  In the case of the Technological Innovation award, the focus is on the creation of new or improved tools that can solve problems and enhance the outcome of a particular process from the use of such equipment or implements.

AAT Research submitted a report on the MENTe and Brain Music System technology and its development as an aid for people with autism. The technology is based on scientifically-proven principles which were elaborated and adapted for a completely novel use.  It offers a standardized therapeutic treatment based on Sonified Neurofeedback to individuals suffering from a wide range of mental and neurological conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder.  In layman’s terms, our system works to convert brainwaves into musical sound to alter and attain a pleasant frequency of brain activity.

System features include:

  • Real-time capabilities, offering direct and continuous feedback to the user.
  • Deployment both inside and outside a traditional clinical setting.
  • Portability.  The size of the equipment is significantly reduced through our use of a 2-channel EEG system instead of standard 10 to 20 electrode systems.
  • Easy and quick to set up.  An individual can set up the system independently.
  • Standard drivers that help developers to integrate the device to any system that can accept Bluetooth data.
  • Easy to integrate in video games by making it compatible with gaming consoles and mobile phones.
  • Value for money.

Adrian Attard Trevisan, CEO of AAT Research said:  ”We are particularly pleased that the Innovation Award recognizes that our MENTe and Brain Music System technology is easily accessible, manageable, and affordable.  We launched our pioneering product after years of research.  It’s extremely gratifying to receive recognition for our efforts, and to receive daily positive feedback from people using our system”.

The official ceremony of the Malta Innovation Awards was held on 15 February 2013.
